RTX awarded $1.7 billion contract for LTAMDS

Contract includes radars for U.S. and Poland, the first international LTAMDS customer

ANDOVER, Mass. (Sept. 23, 2025) – Raytheon, an RTX business, was awarded a U.S. Army contract valued at $1.7 billion to deliver the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor, or LTAMDS. The contract includes a total quantity of nine radars for the U.S. Army and Poland, which is the first international LTAMDS customer, as well as engineering services, spares, support, development and testing.

LTAMDS has completed eight successful flight tests of increasing complexity to stress the radar and prove its capabilities against real-world threats. This led the Army to validate that the radar has reached Milestone C, initiating the production and deployment phase of the program. LTAMDS is now officially designated a program of record by the U.S. Army and ready to support both its U.S. homeland defense and expeditionary missions.

“This latest contract highlights the need for LTAMDS amid increasingly complex and large raid threat tactics and underscores the U.S. Army’s confidence in the system's advanced 360-degree integrated air and missile defense capability,” said Tom Laliberty, president of Land & Air Defense Systems at Raytheon. “After achieving Milestone C earlier this year, Raytheon continues to ramp up production to meet the fast-growing demand from the U.S. Army and international partners.”

International interest in LTAMDS is strong, with more than a dozen countries requesting information and receiving briefings. In October 2023, the Polish Minister of Defense signed a letter of acceptance with the U.S. Army for 12 radars. With this Foreign Military Sale, Poland will be the first international customer to add the advanced 360-degree LTAMDS radar to their air and missile defense architecture.

LTAMDS is the next generation air and missile defense radar for the U.S. Army. A 360-degree, Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, powered by Raytheon-manufactured Gallium Nitride, LTAMDS provides dramatically more performance against the range of threats, from manned and unmanned aircraft to cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and hypersonics.
