Our commitment goes beyond regulatory compliance. We’re conserving natural resources while enhancing operations related to the design and manufacture of our products.

Water conservation

We are taking steps to preserve one of Earth’s most vital life-sustaining resources: water.

  • To support our water conservation efforts, our sites follow best management practices, which include:
    • Developing a site-specific water balance to track sources, usage and discharges, as well as identify reduction priorities.
    • Analyzing opportunities for process wastewater recycling and maintaining efficient cooling tower operations.
    • Conducting regular water audits to uncover areas for improvement.
    • Using reclaimed water sources — industrial or municipal — where possible.

Better buildings

We build with the environment in mind, taking conservation of resources into consideration in the construction of new and significantly modified facilities globally.

  • We incorporate environmental practices and align with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification whenever possible, such as installing skylights and using treated process water for toilet flushing.

Reducing chemical risks

We are committed to improving human and environmental health by reducing substances of concern.

  • We proactively monitor, identify and mitigate risks related to chemical usage across RTX.
  • We work with suppliers to better understand their use of chemicals and identify suitable alternatives.
  • We share ideas and support innovation through groups such as the Advanced Research in Electronics Assembly Consortium, the Pb-Free Electronics Risk Management Council and the IAEG.

Waste management

As part of our natural resource conservation efforts, we are committed to limiting our material use and responsibly managing the waste produced in our direct operations. Our waste management policy and best management practices support our efforts through:

  • Assessing waste streams and developing strategies for reduction, reuse and recycling.
  • Working to increase diversion from landfills and incineration.
  • Minimizing overall waste.
  • Adhering to federal, state, local and provincial waste laws and regulations.

Reducing emissions

A central component of our environmental stewardship effort is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our operations, which we do through reducing energy consumption and increasing our renewable energy use.

  • We invest in energy reduction projects across our footprint, such as conducting “treasure hunts” to identify areas for improvement.
  • We are pursuing several renewable energy procurement types such as retail agreements, local utility company opportunities, community solar programs and onsite solar installations for rooftop and carports.
  • We are a long-time member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Better Plants program for energy conservation at industrial facilities.
