Smarter Digital Experience: New Features Enhance the Engine Exchange Page
by Pratt & Whitney Customer Service
Now more than ever, extending the life of aircraft is a key operational priority for Pratt & Whitney Canada customers. To better support our customers in identifying and purchasing new and overhauled engines from our inventory, the company has recently introduced a number of enhancements to its P&WC Engines & APUs for Sale web application.
“For customers whose engine is facing an overhaul, the option of buying or exchanging a new, used or freshly overhauled engine offers a number of cost-effective benefits. This platform provides convenience and better predictability for our customers.”
David Allaire-Maheux, Director, Pratt & Whitney Canada
Quickly finding a replacement engine that is cost effective and configured to meet the customer’s specific situation contributes to operational efficiency. When taking this route to replace a time-expired engine, the customer manages only one removal and one installation –while renting a replacement engine doubles the logistic burden. A freshly overhauled engine is less costly than a new engine and is backed by its own warranty.
The enhanced web application allows operators to view engines available for sale and exchange with transparent pricing, compare specs, configure engine options with dynamic pricing, view LLP (life-limited parts) cycle details, and subscribe to alerts for real-time availability, all through a mobile-responsive, self-service experience.
The original web application was launched in 2022 and quickly became a go-to resource for the P&WC customer base. Usage has outstripped original expectations – in 2024 alone, the webpage was visited by 21,190 unique users resulting from 131,000 searches on Google for engines for sale.
Overview of Enhancements
- Responsiveness – With 40% of users accessing the page via mobile devices in 2024, the web application is now fully optimized for smartphones and tablets.
- Advanced Search Capabilities – Through a new filter feature, customers can easily find the right engine for their needs – with the ability to search for engine condition (new, used, freshly overhauled, etc.) and to determine when the engine will be ready (immediately, one to two months, etc.)
- Comparison – Users can now compare up to three engines at once, displaying key data such as condition, availability, pricing, TTSN (total time since new), and more.
- Engine Configuration – Customers can configure their engine by defining their needs in terms of compressor or power turbine discs, cycles on LLPs – even request a TBO extension when available.
- Alerts – Customers can sign up for automatic email alerts when the engine model they’re looking for is newly added to the page’s inventory.
“The Engine Exchange web application is an important first step into our five-year plan to transform P&WC’s aftermarket. With an e-commerce Center of excellence at its core, we’re setting the stage for a new era of digital, customer-focused transformation.”
