Collins Aerospace delivers advanced air traffic surveillance radar solutions that provide air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and air traffic control (ATC) organizations with situational awareness required to manage increasingly complex airspace.
Surveillance radar solutions built for the future
Modern airspace faces growing challenges, including new entrants, higher traffic density, and aging infrastructure. Our air traffic surveillance radars are engineered to meet these challenges with proven performance, scalability, and long-term support.
Our primary and secondary radar surveillance solutions include:
- Designs for continuous, all-weather operation
- Optimization for high-traffic and interference-rich environments
- Seamless integration with existing ATC and air traffic management systems
- Decades of operational experience in the U.S. national air space (NAS) and global airspace
Extend the life of proven surveillance radars
Many ANSPs rely on trusted primary surveillance radars that remain structurally sound but technologically outdated. The Life Extension and Advancement Program (LEAP) modernizes legacy ASR-10 and ASR-23 radar systems through modular upgrades that extend service life by 15 years or more.
LEAP enhances detection performance, improves clutter mitigation, enables 3D capabilities, and reduces maintenance and power consumption. Additionally, LEAP offers a cost-effective path to surveillance radar modernization while preserving existing infrastructure investments.
Independent detection with non-cooperative surveillance radar
Primary (non-cooperative) surveillance radars play a critical role in airspace safety by detecting aircraft that do not transmit transponder signals. Our ASR-XM and Skyler® surveillance radar solutions provide reliable, independent detection using advanced signal processing and adaptive clutter suppression.
These primary non-cooperative surveillance radars are optimized for:
- Detection of aircraft, UAS, and other non-cooperative targets
- Performance in wind farm, terrain, and weather clutter
- Operation in congested RF environments, including 5G interference
- Reduced lifecycle costs and enhanced cyber resilience
Reliable cooperative surveillance with Condor Mk3
The Condor Mk3 is a secondary cooperative surveillance radar designed to deliver accurate aircraft identification, altitude reporting, and tracking through direct communication with onboard transponders.
Building on a proven global install base, Condor Mk3 supports Mode S and ADS-B capabilities and provides high reliability in both terminal and en route applications. Its advanced processing and high-duty-cycle performance help controllers maintain precise situational awareness in demanding operational environments.
