The majority of Goodrich products do not have a shelf life and are considered to be “On Condition”. Goodrich provides information on what you should look for to determine if a product can still be used.
Evidence of degradation in many of our age-sensitive products such as cements, edge sealer, primer, etc. are listed in the Goodrich “On Condition Statement” which can be found in the Replacement Parts List (RPL) Catalog.
For pneumatic de-icers, ATA 30-10-31 Installation Manual includes a thorough inspection procedure that can be performed after the factory warranty period has ended to ensure the de-icer still functional and without damage. For more information, see the document On_Condition_Reference_Guide.pdf
When inspecting prop de-icers, the active heating area of the de-icer should flexible, smooth, and soft to the touch. Common indications of prop deicer degradation are discolored areas, rips and/or tears. Check the resistance of the deicer per the aircraft manual and ensure that the wiring and connection areas have not been compromised.
It is best if de-icers are stored in their original packaging in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.

General warranties on Collins Goodrich products are as follows:
* Business aviation is defined as 14 CFR Part 121 or Part 135 operations and less than 19 seats or less than 19,000 lbs MTOW.
** Regional aircraft is defined as 19 seats or greater or in excess of 19,000 lbs MTOW
Collins Goodrich care products can be used separately or in combination per application instructions described in ATA 30-10-31 Installation Manual.
Each Goodrich de-icer has a laser brand on it that includes information on that particular de-icer such as surface ply material, part number, serial number, cure date, etc. The laser brand is generally located on the lower wing surface on the inboard end of the de-icer.
The correct edge sealer depends on the color and surface ply material of your de-icer. The below table displays which kit you should use and the corresponding mixing instructions you will need. If the required instructions are not included in the kit you receive, you can obtain a copy via the Tech Pubs website. Please note that edge sealer kits are the same from both standard and FASTboot® de-icers.

Goodrich has provided SNL 05-064 to provide definitions that are helpful in describing de-icer damage. The Service Newsletter provides descriptions and example pictures of types of damage as well as if it may be considered warrantable damage. It also includes guidelines for return of the de-icer and how to make a warranty claim.

Goodrich de-icers can be cleaned using mild soap and water. Authorized cleaners such as Goodrich Aerospace Cleaner™ are especially useful in stubborn areas as well as for bug removal. A general cleaning detergent, such as Calla 800, can be used to clean off dirt and chemical contaminates. Isopropyl alcohol can also be used in localized troubled areas.
ShineMaster™ Prep should be used to remove previously applied care products such as ShineMaster™ cosmetic material. Depending on the number of existing ShineMaster™ layers on the de-icer, this may take a few iterations. If you find some spots that are difficult to remove, try laying rags soaked with ShineMaster™ Prep across the surface and cover with plastic (to slow down evaporation). Allow this to sit for five minutes before removing.
Collins no longer provides aftermarket STC retrofit de-icing system kits; however, we can advise that the STC kit numbers are available through Parker Hannifin for the following aircraft:
In most cases, Collins provides the pneumatic de-icing boots for these kits. Collins was the type-certified OEM supplier for the de-icing boots on the original production aircraft. Be sure to ask for Collins Goodrich parts for your kit.
Long slits or cracks on the de-icer that appear relatively straight (and usually in the middle of the air tubes) may be cold-cracking. Cold-cracking occasionally occurs when the de-icers are cold-soaked below their designed operating parameters (-40 °F/-40 °C) and inflated when brittle. It is not a warrantable defect, and while it may be repaired if within the repair limits, the damage often extends beyond approved repairs.

3M Scotch-Weld™ Neoprene High Performance Rubber and Gasket Adhesive 1300L with Toluene is the most commonly used authorized adhesive for bonding standard de-icers. 1300L should be used per the installation instructions provided in Goodrich ATA 30-10-31. Approved products are as follows:
NOTE: “Toluene free” 3M Scotch-Weld™ Contact Rubber Adhesive 1300L is not approved for use to bond Goodrich pneumatic de-icers (see SIL 2011-01 for additional details).
British Bostik (Boscolite 9252 primer, Bostik 2402 cement, and Bostikure D accelerator) is an approved alternative adhesive, which should be applied per the instructions in 30-10-31.
